K-2 ELA Curricula
Fundations® is a research-based, multisensory structured literacy program (K-3, extending to 5) focused on foundational skills: phonics, spelling, handwriting, and word recognition. It provides systematic, Tier 1, and 2 instruction, utilizing techniques like skywriting and tapping for kinesthetic learning, making abstract phonics rules concrete.
Key Components & Features:
- Targeted Skills: Instruction covers letter formation, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, decoding (reading), and encoding (spelling).
- Multisensory Approach: Uses tactile and kinesthetic techniques (skywriting, finger tapping) to boost engagement and memory.
- Systematic & Sequential: Skills are taught in a specific, cumulative order, ensuring mastery of basic concepts before advancing.
- Structure: Designed for 20-30 minute daily, whole-class lessons (Tier 1), with options for small-group intervention (Tier 2).
- Levels: Available for Pre-K (activity set) through Grade 3, with expanded levels 4-5 focusing on advanced word study.
Fundations is created by Wilson Language Training and is often used alongside comprehensive, literature-based language arts programs to ensure students apply decoding skills to connected text.

HMH Into Reading is a research-based K–6 comprehensive English Language Arts program designed to foster confident readers and writers through explicit, systematic instruction. It integrates, phonics, knowledge-building, and high-quality literature with digital resources, assessment, and differentiation for diverse learning needs, including options for English learners.

- Flexible Grouping: Offers whole-class, small-group, and independent learning opportunities.

6-8 ELA Curricula

EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning) is a comprehensive, research-backed school reform model that promotes high achievement through active, inquiry-based, and interdisciplinary "learning expeditions". Based on Outward Bound principles, it emphasizes rigorous, real-world projects, character development, and student collaboration to foster leadership.
Key aspects of EL Education schools include:
- Learning Expeditions: In-depth, interdisciplinary studies of specific topics that often take students outside the classroom for authentic experiences.
- Active Pedagogy: Teachers use engaging, hands-on strategies, helping students become collaborative, critical thinkers.
- Three Dimensions of Achievement:
The model focuses on mastering knowledge and skills, producing high-quality work, and building strong character.
- "We Are Crew": A core tenet emphasizing that students and staff are crew, not passengers, fostering community, collaboration, and shared responsibility.
- Service Learning: Students apply their knowledge through service projects, fostering compassion and community engagement.
- Public Presentation: Students present their work to the community, encouraging accountability, craftsmanship, and professionalism.

HMH Into Literature is a comprehensive English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum designed for Grades 6–12. It focuses on building intellectual stamina and independent thinking through a mix of classic and contemporary texts.
Core Instructional Features
- Gradual Release Model: Units follow a structured path—Analyze & Apply (whole-group modeling), Collaborate & Compare (small-group work), and Reader’s Choice (independent reading)—to move students toward autonomy.
- Notice & Note: This signature protocol teaches students "signposts" or text clues that prompt deep analysis and critical thinking.
- Integrated Literacy: The program weaves together reading, writing, speaking, and listening, rather than teaching them in isolation.
- Writable® Integration: A built-in digital tool that provides scaffolded writing practice, peer review opportunities, and detailed teacher feedback.

- Diverse Text Selection: Includes multicultural voices, Young Adult (YA) literature through the HMH Fresh Lit collection, and complex informational texts.
- Digital Platform (Ed): All resources are housed on the HMH Ed learning platform, offering interactive eBooks, adaptive practice via Waggle, and progress tracking.
- Differentiated Instruction: Provides specific "Scaffolding for Multilingual Learners" and "Challenge" notes for advanced students.
- Social & Emotional Learning (SEL): Embedded tips and activities help students build self-awareness and relationship skills through character analysis and collaborative projects.
